Guess where am I? Where else? in Starbucks at Union square New York and writing my book. I was inspired and decisive that today, was going to be THE day. Where I would finish my book because I know that you need to read it. It’s our story! In the mean time, while I am sitting here, based on a conversation I had from a client of mine in coaching here in New York, I was inspired to write this article.

Is this picture upside down? Or do we have the wrong angle?
Coming from the global business world, among successful people, that means if we count success based on how many figures it is your bank account balance, and then with this meaning I met lot of successful people. Most of them were and still are my clients. Although their amazing career, I was surprised that many of them didn’t save money that they could have easily done. Many of them reached the age of 65 and still worrying about their pension funds, instead of enjoying your precious family moment.

I want to be a millionaire, I want a big house, I want to travel, I want to be famous, I want an airplane, I want to retire at the age of 45! These might be few goals and dreams that some people might have. By trying reaching these goals, we forget the daily goals that will lead us to our desired result.

At the very young age I was dreaming the world and was wondering how it looks like. The big cities like Paris, New York, Athens, Rome, and London for which so many Cypriots were talking about. At that time it seems impossible to travel, we hardly had money to survive as family not traveling. My parents were not much in traveling. Priorities they keep saying to us and traveling was never in our priorities list. I remember having an old globe, which I was spinning it and stop it with my finger pointing out the place that I was going to visit. Physically it was difficult so I was “visiting” it mentally.

Confidence is generally described as a state of being certain either that a hypothesis or prediction is correct or that a chosen course of action is the best or most effective. Self-confidence is having confidence in oneself. Arrogance or hubris in this comparison is having unmerited confidence—believing something or someone is capable or correct when they are not. Overconfidence or presumptuousness is excessive belief in someone (or something) succeeding, without any regard for failure. Confidence can be a self-fulfilling prophecy as those without it may fail or not try because they lack it and those with it may succeed because they have it rather than because of an innate ability. Taken to an extreme, over-confidence can cause problems as evidenced by the famous author Matthew Syed and mentioned here in this reference in regard to sport.

I was reading an article in the newspaper regarding time. It was very interesting. The writer was describing how we conceive time and by reading that a picture pop in my mind, from a movie that I adore at the age of 16. “The dead poets’ society” called the movie, where the professor stood up on the chair in the class and asked his students to follow him by doing the same. Everything seemed different from that angle of view, from the chair. You can see that things are not flat, you have clarity of what is going on around on. At least this is how I conceived all this experience and wanted to share it with you.

Having a conversation with a client Martha of mine (for the sake of the article, i use of name “Martha”) in our session about her marriage, I was surprised when she described her marriage like the “carrot and the stick” theory. It put me into thoughts to be honest because she seemed that she like that. As a coach I observe and analyse everything that happens around me so, I had that conversation in my mind for many days now and I would like to share it with you.

Sitting in a coffeehouse near the ferry terminal in Hamilton City at Bermuda, I wonder seeing all these people about where they are going, from where they are coming. What is their story? Everyone has a unique story. Isn’t that amazing how unique we all are but we don’t realize it. Take a moment and think about it, no one of us has the same story with someone else. There is great power behind this uniqueness if we are just aware of it.

Many times people ask me how I am doing this. How I am doing so many things, have a career, run a business, being in politics, the founder of NGO, volunteerism, a single mum of two teenagers and not be insane! At least not yet! I am sure that many of you are like me. How many of us we maintain our work/Life balance though?

Today in the morning going to work, I was parking my car where a dozen of birds were flying above me. I went out of the car stand there and was watching them. They seem so free, flying everywhere. One of them was very near me and was looking at me. I tried to reach him but it flew away few meters further from me.
