"Some gave them lemons, but nobody taught them how to make lemonade" - Nadia Themis

During lockdown, I am sure that, like me, most of you will have watched nearly every series on Netflix and maybe even a Star Wars trilogy or two, yes?  Or was it just my son and me?  I think I am the recreation of Yoda or Darth Vader!  It is been a very interesting period for all of us, I am sure.  One day you wake up feeling like you want to conquer the world and the next day you don’t even want to get out of bed.  So many mixed emotions; anyone relate to this?  At some point, even crisps and wine didn’t taste so good.  Even when we were allowed to go to the park, some days you just felt too bored to go out.

Through this interesting experience though, at least something good came out of the lockdown for me.  It was after watching an old favorite series of mine: “Dynasty” – do you remember that?  Amazing plots, murders, backstabbing, wealth, happiness and misery, all at the same time!  It was interesting for my new book that I am writing.  It is regarding how we can rewire our brain in order to be truly happy and create a self-awareness.  This process of being locked-in forces us to observe who we truly are, testing our limits.  How can we survive without seeing anyone for months, without a hug and a kiss on the cheek?  It is really a test, isn’t it?  Our subconscious is on fire, bringing the demons out of the closet.

We are strong though, and we can pass the test.  I know it is hard, and this is coming from a hyperactive person – an unstoppable force, as my friends call me – who is forced to pause.  Some days are good, because I indeed needed to slow down, and some days are driving me crazy.  And that’s when I meditate, so I can manage and slow down my brain, slowing down the urge to live life at it’s fullest.

So, going back to “Dynasty”, I was thinking how much damage this brainwash process has done to us all these years.  Media is the most powerful weapon: it can uplift us or destroy us.  Even now with the present situation surrounding Covid-19, in the UK they are talking about a second wave, and they are panicking people.  Well, tell that when it is happening, if it will happen, or impose stricter measures!  Things are quite simple, but going back to the brainwashing process.

We created in our head an imaginary perfect lifestyle.  Many podcasts, articles and books refer to success and how to make money, or offer advice on how to become a millionaire. Of course we need money, but first you need a good mind, which leads to good health and then to a great successful life.  To be honest with you, I think that you can be really happy even if you are not a millionaire.  My observations through my traveling and living experience in many countries like Tunisia, Bermuda, Slovenia, Israel, Switzerland, New York, and the UK, is that wherever you go and however high you may reach business-wise, if you are not truly happy with yourself and your life, then no achievement will ever be enough.  There is no perfect life, no perfect relationship.  We are not all born to be a prince or princess, just humans who can find the ability to love and be loved deeply, after they have accepted and embraced each other’s uniqueness.

There are poor people who are unhappy and there are rich people who are unhappy. I love this phrase a lot: “Some gave them lemons, but nobody taught them how to make lemonade.  I told you there is no easy way out; you need to have a deep inner conversation with the person you see every day in the mirror.

My take-out from the conversation in the mirror these days, is that I have re-discovered what makes me truly happy and that is writing and sharing people’s stories.  Therefore, I have started writing books again, changed the theme of my youTube channel (see the link below), become a more active blogger , coaching people and writing contents for others.  My main concerns, and what I am writing about, are daily stories about life, fitness, nutrition, lifestyle, relationships, mindfulness and business. Well, sometimes I might talk about politics too, as I still have that worm inside me; I guess the phrase “being in politics once, always in politics” applies here. What is your take-out?

I have always found myself doing several things simultaneously, and yes it is possible!  I am an entrepreneur, managing my corporate and business development venture, a writer, a journalist, a performance coach and a single mother of two teenagers, who are my rock!  If you can multi-task, then do it; don’t ask for anyone’s else approval.  I was doing that for years, and it just made me feel oppressed and sad. There is no recipe to success, you must find you own recipe with some guidance if you must.  Don’t be ashamed to ask for help.  Nobody has succeeded anything on his/her own.  Get a mentor, a coach, but you still have to listen to your inner voice.  Check out the 4W Theory, Rule of 3, which you can access below on my website. Complaining is silly, either Act or Forget.

Now, during this “lockdown” madness, I realized what I missed from my normal status of life – Media!  Reflecting back on when I was hosting my own television show at a local station based in London (UK Hellenic TV), I miss the interaction that I had with people and the ability to share their stories.  Funny thing, but when I was a child, I used to go to the local coffeeshop (Kafene in Greek) and listen to the people’s stories, especially about the World War, and write their adventures in my journal. This brought me joy and helped me to ‘escape’ from my own life.

A few months ago, a good friend and client of mine passed away.  He was young, intelligent, a brilliant mind with amazing prospects ahead of him.  But God had different plans for him, and my friend’s plans remained as unfulfilled plans, never a reality.  We don’t know when our deadline is, and that is why we must enjoy as much as we can.

No-one knows where life may take us, but what I do know is that life is a roller coaster and I can’t wait to experience what is there for me just around the corner.

In life, there are high points and there are low points.  Sometimes, it can be scary, sometimes it can be fun.  The most important thing is to try and enjoy the ride This pandemic shall pass soon, I just hope it will pass before we all end up as alcoholics and with like 100 stones extra! Well, at least gyms, nutritionists and coaches/therapists will be busy after the lockdown!  A turn around of economy, right? Just saying… take it easy.  We are fine, it could always be worse.

Thank you
